Obituary

Oscar Leonard Harris was born on March 18, 1954 in Houston, Texas to  Nettie White Harris. The youngest and baby boy of eleven children, Oscar spent the majority of his childhood growing up in the Third Ward area.

He attended Douglass Elementary and James D. Ryan Junior High School. He continued his education and was a proud graduate of Jack Yates Senior High School, Class of 1973.

Growing up, Oscar enjoyed sports and was particularly talented at boxing. He trained his boxing skills through P.A.B.A. and competed locally on an Amateur Boxing level.

Oscar wed his former wife Landa in 1979.  He is the proud father of two daughters Urica and Lisa. Oscar later welcomed his son Anthony.

Oscar had many skills. While he  briefly worked  on other jobs,  he spent over thirty years at Wholesale Electric Supply company in the shipping and receiving department, retiring in a managerial position.

After retirement, you could find Oscar doing what he loved on any day: caring for his brother LeRoy, sitting on his porch with his dog(s), watching the football or basketball game, watching Gunsmoke, barbecuing, cracking jokes, cruising around town, entertaining family and friends, dressing sharp and charming everyone who crossed his path with his beautiful smile. Oscar loved people, his neighborhood, and being a part of a community.

He is preceded in death by a host of ancestors, his mother Nettie White Harris, his four brothers, Samuel Harris, Benjamin Harris, Ben Rogers, Robert Williams, and two sisters, Yvonne Phillips and Constance Jean Walker. He is survived by his children, Urica, Lisa and Anthony, grandchildren, Briana and Braylen, his siblings Erma Harris, Helen Randolph,  LeRoy Harris and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, friends and his puppy, Rock.

Oscar leaves behind a legacy of resilience, reconciliation, and love-especially in the final months of his life, which brought healing and renewed closeness with his children.

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
