Veronica Garrett Hart
October 4, 1962 – March 9, 2025
Her Life Story
Veronica Garrett Hart was an extraordinary individual. Born on October 4, 1962, to
Shirley Wonza Garrett, Veronica was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, while keeping
strong ties to her roots in Franklinton, LA. She graduated from Warren Easton High
School and attended Delgado Community College.
Veronica was a devout follower of Christ. She began her Christian journey through
baptism at Shaw Temple United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Hoover.
As her life progressed, she moved to Houston, Texas, and became an active member of
Holman Street Baptist Church, where she grew in faith under the guidance of Pastor B.
Johnson II and current Pastor Murray Martin. At Holman, Veronica’s faithfulness, love,
and dedication flourished, and she forged lasting bonds of family and friendship. Her
greatest joy came from singing alongside her sister/best friend, the late Anita Evans-Scott,
and The Voices of Hope Choir. Veronica’s love for God was evident in everything she did,
and her vibrant spirit—marked by her distinct voice and bold presence—was
unmistakable. Her service to others, compassion for life, fortitude, commitment,
trustworthiness, and love will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew her.
Veronica’s greatest joy came from assisting in the care and upbringing of her nieces
and nephews. A sports enthusiast, especially in national and collegiate football, she
could predict plays before they happened and was never shy about playful taunting after
a victory. She was also an avid traveler who loved listening to music and attending
concerts.
For over 22 years, Veronica’s professional career spanned the halls of M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center, where her gentle, loving, and kind spirit radiated to all her patients daily.
In 2009, health challenges led to her retirement, but her desire to serve others remained
strong.
On December 3, 2021, Veronica was united in marriage to Mr. Lonnie Hart, a testament
to their true love and commitment, exemplified through God’s eyes.
Veronica is preceded in death by her parents, Shirley and Sylvester Martin; her sister,
Vinita Garrett, along with several aunts and uncles.
She leaves behind cherished memories to be carried on by her beloved husband,
Lonnie Hart; adopted parents, James and Catherine Marshall (Laplace, LA); sisters,
Diredre (Raynelle) Lennix, D’Wan (Jay) Nunnery (Laplace, LA), Betty G. Kennedy

My dear sister, rest in peace.
I love the time we spent together getting into good trouble. Thank you for your kindness, organization skills, unconditional love and spiritual guidance. I will never forget how you enriched my life and the life of my family.
Dolores
Nanny, I’m forever grateful that God put you in my life at a young age. You were always the same even in your sickness. We may have been miles apart but our hearts were always attached. You were definitely a one of a kind Godmother and I will keep our memories close at heart & I will always love you.💜
Rest in peace my friend. I will always remember the times that me and Dan visited Delores and Jyron. You were always there at their house when we arrived frying the best fish I have ever eaten. I also remember the times that you came to California for the Rose parade. There will be a parade in heaven for you!
My sincere condolences to Lonnie Hart.
